The New
Great
Migration
(Matt Williams)
Over the past two decades, Black Americans have been on the move in historic numbers, especially since the pandemic began in 2020. Historians have dubbed this period the “Reverse Migration,” as Black folks from the North return to Southern communities, reversing the paths their elders took in the 20th century. Since 2022, Capital B has traveled the country to document this phenomenon, explore the reasons behind the shift, and show how it is changing culture, politics, and the environment across the country.
